Defence Research and Development Organization, recently tested the newly made Astra Missile on the Sukhoi SU-30 of Indian Air Force. The Astra has a range of 70 kms and travels at a speed of 5,555 kmph said a defence ministry statement.
The missile was tracked by number of radars and sensors and was confirmed a target hit while it was tested off the Odisha Coast on Tuesday, September 17, 2019.
The missile has a 15kgs high-explosive pre-fragmented warhead and is capable to target targets of multiple ranges and altitudes. Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO on this successful milestone.
